Many roasters would
have you believe that the concept of artisan roasting and
technology do not belong together. We believe that like so
many aspects of our everyday lives, technology can and should
be applied intelligently. Many artisan food producers use
technology to improve their craft, including small batch breweries,
wineries, cheese makers, and others. Think of the difficulty
you would have at home baking a cake if you had no easy means
to control the temperature of your oven – the fact that
you monitor and control oven temperature with a digital control
in no way diminishes the craft nature of your cake baking.
Similarly, the use of technology to monitor and control our
process in no way diminishes the integrity of the finished
coffee, and to the contrary, probably improves it.
 Our
roaster is a brand new, eco-friendly design from U.S. Roaster
Corporation. It utilizes special technology to decrease air
pollution – there are no visible emissions from our
roaster, and virtually none measurable. The technology employed
to eliminate emissions also results in very, very low power
consumption. We believe that our roaster is the most “green”
roaster available – a solar powered roaster may be the
only more fuel efficient possibility, and even then you would
still have emissions!
In addition to the energy saving and emission reducing
features, we add a state-of-the-art computer control system
which allows the creation of repeatable roast profiles for
specific blends and batch sizes.
Our roasting technology is installed in our brand new,
purpose built roasting facility. We are approved by the
North Carolina Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services,
and maintain a rigorous quality system for compliance with
food handling regulations. Our processes have been thoroughly
vetted and are documented in a collection of operating procedures
designed to pass the most rigorous of audits.
